The Ohio State football team has several SEC teams scheduled in the future. The Buckeyes are one of the few big-time programs around the country that are not afraid to schedule other great teams in the regular season. That's why they have Texas, Georgia, and Alabama scheduled for the future.
This year, the Ohio State Buckeyes were able to beat Texas in the first game of the season, 14-7. That first game showed that this team was once again a national championship contender. However, SEC schools are now wary of scheduling teams that could actually beat them in the regular season.
In the pursuit of making the College Football Playoff, SEC teams are starting to re-evaluate their future schedule. In fact, former Alabama running back Mark Ingram believes that those at Bama are considering canceling the future home-and-home series with the Buckeyes.
Alabama could cancel future series with the Ohio State football team
On The Triple Option Podcast, Ingram said that canceling the future series is "on the radar" from Alabama's perspective.
"These home-and-aways, like Alabama has home-and-away against Ohio State. Like, why would you even do that? Little birds, they're talking about not trying to do that anymore. Like, I don't know if it's going to get done or if it's not, but it's definitely on the radar to get that off the schedule."
It shows the fear that the Tide has of playing against the Buckeyes. If an SEC team can't beat a non-conference opponent or is even close to talent against that team, they are afraid to schedule them. That's the mentality of the entire conference. That's why the Big Ten is at the top of the conference pecking order.
It would be a shame for all of college football if this future series ended up getting canceled. College football needs more marquee non-conference matchups. Ohio State clearly believes that college football deserves these great games. It's a shame the SEC doesn't see it that way.
