A former Ohio State football player and his contract negotiations could get ugly

The former Buckeye might have a bit of a messy situation while he's trying to get a contract extension.

Former Ohio State football player Terry McLaurin has been one of the best receivers in the NFC East in the last few years. He was drafted in the third round by the Washington Commanders back in the 2019 NFL Draft. Since being brought in, he has been their most consistent offensive player.

Now, he wants to be paid as such. He is one of the most underrated players in the entire NFL. McLaurin is trying to make sure that he is compensated as such, so he is currently sitting out OTAs with the Commanders. McLaurin is doing what he thinks is best for him and his career.

Washington doesn't have a good track record of handling these kinds of situations. In the past, they have wanted to win the negotiation with no strings attached. While they have relatively new ownership, they are trying to make sure that doesn't happen as often.

Former Ohio State football player Terry McLaurin might have issues negotiating with Washington

McLaurin would have a lot of value in the open market. That's why some teams are monitoring this situation very closely. If things get ugly, McLaurin could ask for a trade to another team that would treat him better and have a better track record of quarterback play.

Jayden Daniels showed just how good he can be as a rookie last year. McLaurin would certainly be better with Daniels than he was with any of the previous quarterbacks he had throwing him the ball. Washington would be better off keeping McLaurin by any means necessary.

If things aren't solved by later this summer, McLaurin could be somewhere else. He was great with the Buckeyes, and he will be even better once his contract situation is figured out. Whether that is with Washington or not remains to be seen.
