The Ohio State football program is mostly focused on the 2027 recruiting class at the moment. That is the most pressing recruiting need. They have just 14 commits for the class at the moment. Of course, that doesn't mean the Buckeyes don't have their eyes towards the future.
Right now, the Ohio State Buckeyes are hosting another camp. That has given them a chance to see a lot of 2028 kids firsthand. That class is very talented as well. Ryan Day and his staff are looking at kids whom they might want to offer, as well as a few prospects who might already consider them as a top school.
Tyzon Swann is a five-star defensive line recruit. He is from the state of Maryland and is listed as the top defensive line recruit in the 2028 class at this point. He is in Columbus for this camp, and the Buckeyes have taken notice of him. It seems Swann has taken notice of them, as well.
Five-star recrit Tyzon Swann has Ohio State as a top school of his
Swann hasn't fully made up his mind when it comes to the top schools on his list, but he knows he has Ohio State on it. He also called Larry Johnson the best defensive line coach in the country, so that seems promising. The Buckeyes certainly love the sound of that.
Johnson has already shown that he is still a great recruiter. He doesn't show any signs of slowing down, especially with what he has already done in the 2027 class. He has already landed a commitment from DJ Jacobs, and it looks like he is going to get one from Marcus Fakatou, too.
Getting two five-star recruits in one class would be fantastic for the Buckeyes. It would be the first time Ohio State would get two five-star recruits in the same class since 2021, when J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer both pledged themselves to the Buckeyes.
Larry Johnson is putting together an all-time resume
If Johnson does actually land all of these recruits, that's just extra stuff on top of an already stellar resume that he has put together. Johnson has won national championships with two different coaches at Ohio State, as he was also on Urban Meyer's staff.
Keeping Johnson on staff when he got the job was perhaps the smartest staffing move that Ryan Day made. Johnson has continued to not just recruit, but also develop elite defensive linemen. Even now, he still has gas in the tank to not just recruit, but also to coach on a daily basis.
At this point, it's hard to say that Johnson is not the GOAT when it comes to defensive line coaches. He has accomplished an insane amount, and he could add another title to his resume this season if things go well. Ohio State certainly feels it should be able to contend for that.
Johnson should be able to continue coaching for another few years if he desires to do so.
