4-star Princeton cornerback recruit Monsanna Torbert isn't expected to draw out his decision for long once his visit with TTUN this weekend is complete. That should be Torbert's last visit, and a decision is imminent, writes GBMWolverine's Chris Peterson.
Per Peterson, "Following an official visit to Ohio State last weekend, the Buckeyes started trending with expert projections. There was some concern that Torbert would make it to Ann Arbor for his official visit. ... That concern was alleviated on Friday when Torbert arrived on campus for his official visit. That was a positive for the Wolverines. That will give them the chance to host the final visit, unless this recruitment extends into the fall, but it's hard to see that happening."
A Torbert win would be a big one for Buckeyes CB coach Tim Walton, who has built a substantial in-state pipeline. Obviously, a loss to TTUN for a Cincinnati kid would be less than ideal. Kyle Whittingham is a DB whisperer, though, so it's understandable how the Wolverines got the final visit. There probably is a legitimate chance to steal Torbert at the last second.
A legitimate chance doesn't mean a great one, though. Certainly not in Torbert's case. He's got a number of crystal balls projecting him to the Ohio State University already. It'd be a pretty big upset if the Buckeyes couldn't keep Torbert from crossing state lines.
From TTUN or the Louisville Cardinals, who have entered the mix late. Louisville is flashing NIL funds at Torbert. You wonder if the increased monetary investment would give Torbert the chance to play at more positions in the Bluegrass State.
Ohio State is about to complete Monsanna Torbert's flip from Indiana
Don't forget about the added bonus of a Torbert get: it'd complete a flip from the defending champion Indiana Hoosiers. Maybe not everyone believes that there's an arms race right now between Ohio State and Indiana, but there is. The Hoosiers are only 227 miles away. If Indiana continues making a mark, there will be a legitimate choice between the two in the future. IU's donors will continue to throw big money at recruits if they see the investment pay off. The 2025/2026 CFP title after a 16-0 season was a hell of a payoff in Bloomington.
Beyond just beating TTUN for Sorbert, and keeping the Cards out of the NIL world's deep end, the Buckeyes could remind the world that there is staying power at Ohio State. The Buckeyes were the first team to win a four-team CFP, and then later became the first team to win it in a 12-team field. This is a proven tradition.
Sorbert is the kind of dynamic in-state athlete whose decision to go to Ohio State would mean money alone can't buy him, that'd set the tone for a 2027 class that is starting to pick up steam in the composite team rankings. Right now, OSU is at the backend of the top 10 on any given day. Soon, once guys like Torbert commit, the Buckeyes will make their ascent upward.
