Ohio State Buckeyes linebackers Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles, and OSU safety Caleb Downs, were recently linked to a franchise that's been mired in NFL purgatory for the last 15 seasons.

New York Jets On SI's Arye Pulli reports that "all signs suggest New York will choose a defensive player," and linked the trio of aspiring Ohio State alumni to Gang Green, arguably the worst landing spot in the league.

The only positive from Pulli's report is that the soon-to-be former Buckeyes aren't the only players linked to a situation that should be a good one with the defensive-minded Aaron Glenn in charge, but just isn't and hasn't been in over a decade.

"It's uncertain who the Jets will choose, but they reportedly are interested in Texas Tech's David Bailey, Miami's Rueben Bain, and Ohio State stars Sonny Styles, Caleb Downs, and Arvell Reese. Darren Mougey and the Jets' front office have been keeping the team's plans under wraps, though the aforementioned five players seem like the only possibilities," Pulli wrote.

"As the draft gets closer, the Jets might reveal their intentions, and they're probably going to host all five players for a pre-draft top 30 visit, also known as a '30' visit. While these visits don't always reflect the team's top-30 players on their draft list, '30' visits are a reliable sign that a team wants to learn more about a prospect."

Former Ohio State star Justin Fields' NFL career took a forgettable pit stop in East Rutherford, New Jersey, during the 2025 season. He didn't win a single game until October and was on the brink of falling out of favor in the league. To replace him, the Jets traded for Geno Smith. That's not a serious move after how Smith's Las Vegas Raiders career just went.

Arvell Reese at most risk to be taken by the Jets

It sounds like Reese is in serious danger of going No. 2 overall to New York. That could either be a bad thing, on the Jets, or a positive thing, since the Giants reportedly consider him an option with the No. 5 pick.

"Reese was hosted by the Jets and the New York Giants for a pre-draft top 30 visit earlier this week, OnSI has learned," Pulli prefaced before saying, "Reese, who is ranked the third-highest player on ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper's post-Combine big board, discreetly navigated New York, meeting with both teams as the NFL free agency period began. He's an option for the Jets at pick No. 2 and for the Giants at pick No. 5."

Whichever Buckeye lands with Big Blue, if any of them do, will have bragging rights over whoever joins the NFL franchise in the same building with the most pitiful recent history of any team in the league. Hopefully, Reese doesn't suffer that fate.
