For the last few years, players from across the country have been able to enter the Transfer Portal in the spring. That was an option for a lot of guys who found out during spring practice that they weren't going to be part of the normal rotation. Ohio State football players were no different.
Several Buckeyes over the last few years utilized that spring portal window. This year, it is not available. However, there are three Ohio State Buckeyes who likely wish that it was still something they could use after the Spring Game on Saturday.
1. Carter Lowe
Perhaps no one played worse in the Spring Game than tackle Carter Lowe. Lowe started the game at right tackle with Phillip Daniels out with an injury. He gave up three sacks in the game, including two in a row. The Buckeyes were expecting better from the former four-star recruit.
Lowe was the fourth-best recruit that Ohio State had in its 2025 recruiting class. As a sophomore, Lowe was supposed to be a solid backup who Ohio State could insert into the lineup in case of an injury. With how he played in the Spring Game, that looks like it would be a disaster.
2. Miles Lockhart
In general, the defensive backs looked like the best unit on the floor for Ohio State. They shut down the wide receivers and didn't let them get any separation. So why is Miles Lockhart on the list? It's because of the massive amount of talent ahead of him on the depth chart.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. returns as the top corner. Devin Sanchez has been a huge performer this Spring and looks poised to take over the other outside corner spot. Transfers Earl Little Jr., Dominick Kelly, and Cam Calhoun are all ahead of Lockhart, too. If he had the chance, the portal would look pretty good to him right now.
3. Jason Moore
For the last three years, the Ohio State Buckeyes have been hoping to get some sort of production from Jason Moore up front. Instead, Moore has been nothing but a mop-up duty defensive lineman. After the Spring Game, it looks like that is all he will be once again.
Qua Russaw, James Smith, and John Walker all transferred in and are higher than Moore on the depth chart. Kenyatta Jackson and Beau Atkinson will be starters. That leaves Moore without many opportunities to see the field this Fall.
