If you picked a random Ohio State football fan off the street, they would claim not to like a single TTUN player ever. Fans can't stand any player who goes to Michigan, myself included. That doesn't mean that they haven't had good players. There are quite a few that fans probably secretly wish Ohio State had.
In recent memory, that list is much shorter. However, there are three guys that fans would have loved if they wore Scarlet and Gray instead of Maize and Blue over the last few decades. The first one on this list is the most modern player that will be covered.
1. Aidan Hutchinson
Aidan Hutchinson was a very good player for TTUN. Ohio State fans hate him because he was the best defensive player on a roster that is forever tainted because of the Connor Stalions scandal. Would he have been as good in that 2021 season if he didn't know what other teams' plays were? We'll never know.
What we do know is that Hutchinson was a very good pass rusher. In games against the Buckeyes, he played agonizingly well. He had 10 tackles in the 2019 game that saw Ohio State crush the Wolverines in Ann Arbor. In the 2021 game that has come into question, he had three sacks.
Hutchinson used that 2021 season to become the second overall pick in the draft and has been a good player for the Lions when he's been healthy. Ohio State fans would have loved to have him on the outside instead of Zach Harrison, who was kind of a bust.
2. Charles Woodson
Charles Woodson remains the only player in college football history to win the Heisman Trophy who played primarily on the defensive side of the ball. In three years with the Wolverines, he was a lockdown corner on the outside and really gave the Buckeyes fits.
In his Heisman-winning year, he recorded seven interceptions and also caught 11 passes, scoring two touchdowns. He was a menace to Ohio State, as he had two interceptions in his freshman season against the Buckeyes in 1995. In his final game against Ohio State, he caught a 37-yard pass, returned a punt for a touchdown, and picked off a pass in the end zone.
If the Buckeyes had Woodson, there is a great shot Ohio State would have won the national championship in 1995. They wouldn't have lost to Michigan in that final game of the year. That team is one of the most talented teams to ever lose to TTUN.
3. Desmond Howard
Howard is another player who won the Heisman for the Wolverines. As a Toledo native, letting him leave the state was a failure of John Cooper. He could have been a great receiver and special teams weapon for the Buckeyes, and fans hate him more than any other TTUN player.
Had he been a Buckeye, he could have been one of the most loved figures in history. His punt return for a touchdown against the Buckeyes, where he struck the Heisman pose, remains an all-time hate moment. Had he done that for Ohio State, that would have been an all-time great moment in the rivalry in Columbus.
