After the Cotton Bowl on December 29, the Ohio State football team will be gearing up for the 2024 season and the 12-team playoff. With Kyle McCord entering the transfer portal, let’s take a look at all of the options for Ryan Day and company at Quarterback.

Devin Brown

Brown will be a junior next year and was already in a battle for the starting job this past year with McCord. Although he had glimpses of star power, he was ultimately not good enough to be the starter. He does have more experience than any other quarterback on the roster, as he appeared in 5 games this season.

Lincoln Kienholz

Kienholz will be a true sophomore next season and is already a fan favorite. He is most notably called the greatest athlete in the history of South Dakota and could have a chance to prove that next season, or even sooner in the Cotton Bowl. He might not have the experience compared to Devin Brown, but could be a viable option, especially if he gets a chance against Missouri.

Air Noland

Noland will be a freshman next season. He has a cannon of an arm, as he threw for 126 touchdowns in his high school career. Noland is also rated as a 5-star prospect and 25th overall in the 2024 class. If the Buckeyes want to start fresh, Noland might be the best option.

Transfer Portal

When looking at the transfer portal, the options could be Cam Ward, Dante Moore, or Riley Leonard. Ward is a dynamic playmaker from Washington State, while Moore will be a sophomore after his solo season at UCLA. Leonard might be a stretch since it seems like he will end up at Notre Dame, but it is still a viable option considering the Ohio State football team’s track record at the position compared to the Irish.

Best Option

When looking at our options, the best person in my opinion would be to get Cam Ward out of the portal. Ward is most similar to Justin Fields/CJ Stroud and is an entertaining player to watch. He has a cannon of an arm and he can use his legs to make plays.

Next. Three coaches OSU should hire right now. dark

With a star like Ward coming in, he could bring a championship back to Columbus and we can get over the hump against TTUN and win the Big Ten. If the Buckeyes cannot bring in Ward, let’s give a shot to Kienholz. He is a mobile QB and all-around athlete who can bring a championship home.
