As the Ohio State football program is preparing to play Missouri in the Cotton Bowl, its former starting quarterback Kyle McCord is looking for a new home.

The Ohio State football team is moving forward with its quarterback room followingthe departure of Kyle McCord. Devin Brown and Lincoln Kienholz will be returning for the Spring and five-star incoming freshman Air Nolan will be on campus in January. But as the Buckeyes figure out who will be their starter in 2024, there is a strong chance that McCord could find a new home within the Big Ten footprint.

It is indeed silly season in college football as new rumors swirling about on a daily basis but there are a few possibilities for Kyle McCord to stay within the Big Ten. Starting with Nebraska, where it was reported that McCord took a meeting with their offensive coordinator, Marcus Satterfield.

Nebraska would be interesting. Head coach Matt Rhule is a very good offensive coach and recruiter. I could see why he would want McCord to suit up for the Cornhuskers. But their lack of offensive weapons has me questioning why McCord would want to play for them.

Another possibility in the Big Ten takes McCord back to his roots, where his father played college football. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and head coach Greg Schiano make a ton of sense for McCord. It would be a homecoming for all involved and Rutgers could sell that McCord’s former five-star rating could be coming home to Piscataway to help turn the tide for the Scarlet Knights.

The only problem there is that returning quarterback Gavin Wimsatt is pretty solid. Would Schiano want to disrupt the growth and potential that Wimsatt showed last season for Rutgers? I would vote yes. McCord is a way more polished passer than Wimsatt and he could easily turn Rutgers into an eight-win team in year one.

Lastly, another possibility for McCord to stay in the Big Ten keeps him on the East Coast as Maryland will be looking for a new quarterback in 2024. With Taulia Tagovailoa moving on, there is no clear successor to him in College Park. I think out of all the possibilities, Maryland makes the most sense for McCord as he would get excellent coaching from Mike Locksley and the Terps do have some decent weapons to work with.

Next. Three more Buckeyes enter the portal. dark

It’s strange to think that McCord would want to leave Ohio State and then join another Big Ten school but there is a strong chance of it happening. It sure would make things interesting if McCord plays the Buckeyes next season.
