The Ohio State football team is going to need a new quarterback next season now thatKyle McCord has decided to enter the transfer portal. This is probably the best for both parties, but it is still surprising even a couple of days later to see his name in the portal.

Ryan Day now has to decide how he wants to handle the QB position next season. Does he want to give the job to Devin Brown, Lincoln Kienholz, or Air Noland? Or does he want to go into the portal and get someone who has a little bit more experience?

It looks like the portal is the answer. The Buckeyes have already been linked to a few quarterbacks in the portal. There are three of them that I have seen reports on that look like realistic options to me. These are not in order of best options, but most realistic in terms of landing them.

The first is the one to whom Ohio State has been linked the most.

1. Cam Ward

Almost as soon as Cam Ward put his name into the portal, the Ohio State football team was linked to him. It seems that Ryan Day and his staff are extremely interested in Ward, who was a two-year starter with Washington State before entering the portal.

I understand why they would like him. Ward threw for over 3,700 yards and 25 touchdowns this season with the Cougars. He can also move a bit too as he ran for 8 touchdowns. He gives them a dual-threat ability that the Buckeyes didn’t have with McCord.

Ward is garnering a lot of interest from other programs as well. Ohio State seems to be the favorite right now if they decide he’s their guy. Ward would start for the Buckeyes for one year before heading off to the NFL, so that would give Noland time to learn the offense and compete for the starting job in 2025.

The next quarterback Ohio State has been linked to is actually the guy I hope the Buckeyes are able to land.
