Ohio State Football should go after this OL in transfer portal
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team needs help along the offensive line. That was evident at many points last season, no more evident than in the final game of the year. The final play of Ohio State’s regular season saw Kyle McCord getting crushed as he tried to throw a pass.
What they had in 2023 isn’t good enough. Neither tackle was good and Donovan Jackson regressed at guard. The Buckeyes can go into the transfer portal and fix the issue though and there is one specific offensive lineman that they need to target.
That player is tackle Chase Bisontis. Bisontis started all 12 games for Texas A&M at right tackle this year as a freshman and was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He is one of several players who are transferring out of A&M now that the season has ended.
Bisontis stands at 6’6 and 320 pounds, so he is a big dude. He showed that he can perform adequately in both the run game and the pass game in the SEC, which is huge. That’s way better competition than Josh Simmons had seen before he transferred into the Ohio State football program.
Ohio State did offer Bisontis when they were recruiting him, but he ultimately decided to choose to play for the Aggies. I wonder if that relationship can somehow be brought back up to a point where he would consider coming to Columbus. It sure would be nice to have to have a tackle with SEC starting experience.
Unfortunately, I don’t have much faith in Justin Frye to be able to land a prospect like him. Frye has proven that he can’t recruit or develop players in the two years he’s been on staff. Frankly, he should have been fired when the season ended.
Maybe Ryan Day can convince him to suit up for the Scarlet and Gray. That would be nice.
