Ohio State basketball keeps rolling with another win
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team came into this season hoping to be better than they were a year ago when they finished under .500 and missed the NCAA Tournament. It didn’t look like that was going to be the case after they struggled with Oakland in the opener and then lost to Texas A&M at home.
Since that loss to the Aggies, the Buckeyes have looked really good. They have won every game they’ve played, including Wednesday night against Miami (OH). They took down the Red Hawks easily 84-64 in a game that started getting out of hand halfway through the first half.
It was a balanced effort from the Ohio State basketball team, with six players scoring in double-figures. Felix Okpara was the only starter who failed to do so and Zed Key and Dale Bonner were able to do so off the bench. The Buckeyes are a hard team to beat when they do that.
Quite frankly, this game was won at the free-throw line. Ohio State took 14 more foul shots than the Red Hawks did. They finished 19/25 from the line while Miami was just 9/11. That extra ten points certainly gave the Buckeyes a big boost considering they allowed Miami to shoot 58% from three.
Turnovers were a big story as well. Ohio State managed to limit themselves to just 10. Miami had 17. Because of that, the Buckeyes took seven more shots than Miami. Quite frankly, Miami got outhustled in this game, which is something you love to see.
Ohio State looks really good right now, but it’s early December. They’ve played just one conference game so far. It’s still too early to get excited. We know that the January slide is coming. Until proven otherwise, that is what I expect from this team moving forward.
Regardless, this team looks good right now. I just wish the games were on broadcast television so that Ohio State basketball fans at large could enjoy them.
