Ohio State Football: Julian Fleming enters the portal
The Ohio State football team has lost another key member from its 23′ squad. Wide receiver Julian Fleming will enter the transfer portal.
The Ohio State football team is starting to lose players left and right to the transfer portal. The latest is a complete shock. Former five-star wide receiver, Julian Fleming announced that he will be looking for a new home with one season of eligibility left.
Fleming came to Columbus as one of the best prospects they ever got. The No. 2 overall player in the 2020 recruiting class was the prized jewel of Brian Hartline’s recruits. Since then, players like Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Emeka Egbuka, and Marvin Harrison Jr. surpassed Fleming on the depth chart.
In a career filled with shoulder injuries and other ailments, Fleming turned himself into one of the best blocking receivers in Ohio State history. He also was very reliable with his hands over the past two seasons.
Fleming caught 26 passes for 270 yards and zero touchdowns in his last season wearing the Scarlet and Gray. His best season was last year with C.J. Stroud at quarterback where he caught 34 passes for 533 yards and six touchdowns.
It’s unclear where Fleming might go but I’m sure he is going to want a chance to be a true No. 1 receiver. He surprised many people by choosing Ohio State over his hometown team, Penn State back in 2020. Maybe that could be a spot for him with Drew Allar throwing him balls.
Fleming becomes the 12th member of the 2023 Ohio State football team to leave via the transfer portal. He joins Kyle McCord, Evan Pryor, Victor Cutler Jr., Jakob James, Omari Abor, Reid Carrico, Jyaire Brown, Ryan Turner, Cameron Martinez, Kye Stokes and Parker Lewis.
Ohio State has the No. 2 overall recruiting class coming in with 22 hard commitments. But they will have to jump in the portal themselves to add depth to this roster following all these players leaving the program.
