The Ohio State football team is sitting out of conference championship week for the third straight year. They have to sit at home and watch TTUN play in the Big Ten Championship. They don’t control their own destiny when it comes to making the College Football Playoff.

Some Ohio State football fans are hoping to get some luck to help them still get in. Let me tell you this now before I get too deep into it: it’s unlikely. The Buckeyes need a lot to go their way to make sure that they sneak into that fourth spot in the CFP rankings.

First, Washington needs to beat Oregon on Friday night in the Pac-12 Championship Game. If Oregon wins, they will be a one-loss conference champion in the best conference in the country. They would take Oregon over Ohio State in a heartbeat. So, the Ducks have to lose.

Secondly, Texas has to fall to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship. This is probably the biggest roadblock the Buckeyes have. The Cowboys have three losses and none of them inspire any confidence that they can actually beat Texas. Do you think a team that lost to South Alabama 33-7 at home can beat the Longhorns? I do not, but I’m hoping for a massive upset.

If that happens, the Buckeyes also need Georgia to beat Alabama in the SEC Championship. That is certainly a possibility. The Bulldogs are the two-time defending national champs and haven’t lost all year. They can certainly take down the Tide.

Lastly, Florida State needs to lose to Louisville in the ACC Championship. This is actually the most likely thing to happen because they are without starting quarterback Jordan Travis. Heck, their backup is questionable for the game so they might be down to their third-stringer.

Personally, I think this is too much that needs to fall Ohio State’s way. But if you don’t want to give up hope, this is what you need to have happen.
