The Ohio State football team finished its regular season with a 30-24 loss to Michigan last weekend. Let’s look at how the coaches faired in 2023.

The Ohio State football team closed out its 2023 regular season last weekend with a third straight loss to Michigan in Ann Arbor. As disappointing as that may be, it’s time to be objective and honest as we give this coaching staff some letter grades. Last year we handed out grades that were honest and fair, and I believe we will do the same for this season.

For the most part, the season was a major success with wins at Notre Dame and against Penn State in Ohio Stadium. But the Buckeyes failed to play for a Big Ten Championship once again and that is a major disappointment.

Ultimately, Ohio State football is assessed on how well they do against Michigan, and again they failed that test. Let’s take a look at how we believe the coaching staff faired in 2023.

Truley trying to be objective, it’s officially time to say that Parker Fleming is not working out as Special Teams coordinator. Once again in the biggest game, special teams miscues affected the outcome as Jesse Mirco had his worst game of the season punting.

But for a coach to take up one of the 10 coveted coaching spots on staff, Flemming fails to deliver anything substantial. His unit has been pedestrian for three years now and we still don’t know what he does recruiting-wise except that he is the Chicagoland recruiter.

If Ryan Day wants to have a true special teams coach, there are way more experienced and qualified coaches out there who can do a better job. And while I hate calling for firings, this one seems to be well deserved. Parker Flemming gets an ‘F’ for 2023.
