The Ohio State football team was hoping to be preparing for the Big Ten Championship right now. Instead, they are at home licking their wounds after another embarrassing loss to Michigan. This is the third straight year they have been at home instead of in Indy competing for a Big Ten title.

There are many reasons why the Buckeyes weren’t able to beat TTUN on Saturday. We talked about the coaching and how the defense couldn’t make a stop. One thing that we need to talk about further is the quarterback play and how it wasn’t close to good enough.

I have been a Kyle McCord defender. I said all year long that he is good, not great. Not everyone can be C.J. Stroud. But I can’t defend him any longer. I was wrong about him. He’s not the quarterback that is going to lead Ohio State to a Big Ten or national title.

McCord made a back-breaking mistake early in the game when he threw an interception that set TTUN up inside the 10-yard line. That led to the first touchdown of the game. His second interception wasn’t his fault, but he hasn’t had a truly great moment this season.

A lot of people on social media have taken exception to McCord’s comments about The Game being “just another game”. He can’t say that. It isn’t just another game. It’s THE Game. Part of that falls on the culture that Ryan Day has implemented into the program.

The bottom line is that McCord just wasn’t good enough this season. He finishes the regular season with 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, and 3 fumbles lost. He threw for over 300 yards just three times this season. His rushing stats were even worse, finishing with -65 yards.

dark. Next. Three OSU players who probably won't be back in 2024

The Ohio State football program needs more for the quarterback. This is the first time Day has failed to deliver a true stud at that position. It could end up being his downfall.
