The Ohio State football team lost to Michigan 30-24 yesterday afternoon. The Buckeyes’ lack of aggression is most concerning.

The Ohio State football team has lost three consecutive games to their rival. Michigan has Ryan Day’s number. But the most concerning thing about all three losses has been the lack of aggressiveness during the games.

It’s been proven and is clear that Ryan Day and his coaching staff are at their worst when they’re playing not to lose. It cost them in a big way on Saturday afternoon as Ryan Day’s decision at the end of the half to let the clock run down and try a 52-yard field goal was a massive mistake. The defense also took the bend but not break approach as they were lit up for 30 points and couldn’t get a stop when they needed it most in the fourth quarter.

Ryan Day and this Ohio State team are at their best when they are the aggressors. When they take their shots and let it rip, things like beating Clemson and playing Georgia to its toughest game in three seasons are possible. When they are not the aggressor, three straight losses to Michigan happen.

It’s frustrating because Ryan Day and his staff should know this by now. They have a stellar record against every team not named Michigan. Day once again coached not to lose. I want to say that he will learn from this but if he hasn’t by now, he never will. And in case some miracle happens, and Ohio State finds itself back in the College Football Playoffs I have confidence that Day can prepare this team to play a great game.

I just have zero confidence that he can line up and be the aggressive team in next year’s rivalry game. And that has to make you wonder if Day is the right person to be at the helm of this program.
