The Ohio State basketball team was looking for a quality non-conference win over Alabama. They couldn’t quiet get one in their first opportunity against Texas A&M, but this one would be better because it’s a neutral site game. Ohio State played A&M in Columbus.

From a broadcast standpoint, it was a frustrating situation for Ohio State basketball fans because the game wasn’t on CBS Sports Network at the start because the New Mexico/Utah State football game went into overtime. It was eventually streamed on the CBS Sports App.

Once fans were able to watch the game, they were treated to a good effort from the Buckeyes. They took the lead in the first half and never relinquished it. They ended up winning the game 92-81. It was the most impressive win since last season during Big Ten play.

Bruce Thornton was the best player on the floor for either team. He was able to put up 29 points, leading the Buckeyes in scoring. He really controlled the tempo in the first half for them. Thornton wasn’t the only Buckeye to put up 20+ points though.

Roddy Gayle had 23 points too, making an array of different shots. He’s had a really good start to the year so far and might be Ohio State’s most consistent scorer. That Big Ten Tournament a year ago did wonders for his confidence and he has carried it over to this year.

The win over the Crimson Tide gives the Buckeyes a 4-1 record. This will be a nice resume booster later in the year if they are in contention for an NCAA tournament spot. A neutral win over a team that will compete for the SEC title is a strong win to have.
