Ohio State Football stays put in new CFP rankings

The Ohio State football team started as the number-one team in the country when the first CFP rankings came out. They got that top spot based on their strong resumé, which included wins at Notre Dame and home against Penn State. No one else had two wins that strong.

That has changed in recent weeks. Georgia overtook Ohio State in last week’s rankings after a strong win over Missouri. A big win over Tennessee this week did nothing to dissuade the committee this week. They decided to keep Georiga in that top spot again.

The Ohio State football team stays at second in the rankings, one spot ahead of TTUN. So it will be #2 vs. #3 this weekend in Ann Arbor. The winner of The Game will likely win the Big Ten and make it to the CFP. The winner also has a claim to be the number-one team in the country.

That’s especially true if it’s the Buckeyes because of that non-conference win over Notre Dame. TTUN doesn’t have any good wins in the non-conference slate. But the Buckeyes aren’t focused on that right now. They are just worried about this game coming up on Saturday afternoon.

If Ohio State were to lose The Game, they would need absolute chaos around them in order to make the CFP for the second straight year. Washington, Florida State, and Georgia would all need to lose this weekend as well. I would not plan on that happening.

Just win this game and the Big Ten Championship, they’re in the College Football Playoff. Depending on what Georgia does, they could end up being back in that number-one spot again. But that’s of no concern right now. Michigan is the only thing that matters to any Buckeye player or Buckeye fan.

Just have to win one more game.
