Ohio State Football: Ryan Day and Jim Harbaugh show how much they hate each other
By Ryan Stano
When it’s the week of The Game, everyone’s level of anxiety is heightened. That’s true for every member of the Ohio State football program, including Ryan Day. Day has had a lot going on this season and has done a tremendous job of keeping his team focused through the chaos.
Jim Harbaugh was asked yesterday about his level of respect for Day, this was his response:
"“It’s all about our preparation for Ohio. You know, that’s where our focus is. Our focus is preparing ourselves and practive and then execute. So, I mean anything else is irrelevant, you know, when you get into this king of big game week.”"
As you can see, Harbaugh didn’t say anything about respecting Day or the Ohio State football program. You can see that he actively doesn’t like Day or the program, which is fine. Day was asked the same thing about Harbaugh today during his press conference and had this to say:
"“With everything going on and the things that are out there, we’ve just kind of stayed away from the distractions … They’re focused on this game, on this season, and their preparation, and we’re just going to continue on that.”"
Day said nothing about respecting Harbaugh either. These two guys truly hate each other. That’s a new development in this rivalry. At least the coaches of the past in this rivalry respected each other. Urban always respected his opponents. So did Jim Tressel and those before him.
Harbaugh clearly started all of this when he tried to blame Day for doing something illegal in a call with the Big Ten. Since then, these two coaches have been at each other’s throats. Harbaugh hates Day so much that his team had to cheat the last two years in order to win games against the Buckeyes.
In a game that already has so much juice, this just adds to it. This game has so much anticipation around it and it is going to be the most-watched college football game this season. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t.
