Ohio State Football: Defense shows they are ready for Michigan
By Ryan Stano
A big second half helped the Ohio State football team defeat Minnesota on Saturday night 37-3. The defense was a big reason for the win. They have been elite all season long on that side of the ball and they showed that again against the Golden Gophers.
Now that the Minnesota game is over, the Buckeyes can put their full attention towards TTUN and The Game. The defense showed that the Buckeyes are ready for this week’s game. Michigan’s offense wasn’t that inspiring against Maryland. Going up against the same defense that Ohio State showed against Minnesota is going to cause problems for TTUN.
Jack Sawyer had his best game of the season against the Golden Gophers. He finished the game with 6 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble. If he plays like that against Michigan, Ohio State will be in a great spot, especially if he lines up over their right tackle.
Ohio State almost shut out the Golden Gophers and they weren’t even at full strength on defense. They were without Mike Hall, Tommy Eichenberg, and Lathan Ransom. They should get Hall and Eichenberg back for this week but will still be without Ransom.
While not having Ransom is less than ideal, the Buckeyes are still good enough on defense to make up for his absence. The Ohio State football team has leaned on their defense to win games all season long. They just have one more game to lean on them in.
The offense has looked good in the last two weeks of play, especially on the ground. That ground game is going to be important to help the defense as well. Keeping the offense on the field allows the defense to rest more, which is very important against a Michigan team that loves to run the ball.
I can’t wait for this game. It’s going to be a long week until we get there.
