Ohio State Football: C.J. Stroud is an MVP candidate
The Ohio State football program should be very proud of what C.J. Stroud has been able to accomplish in the NFL thus far.
The Ohio State football program continues to look on as its former quarterback, C.J. Stroud, is dominating at the next level. Stroud continued his excellent play yesterday in a massive 30-27 upset win over the Joe Burrow-led Cincinnati Bengals.
Stroud finished the game with 23 completions on 39 passing attempts for 356 yards and a score. He also ran in a touchdown. This comes on the heels of breaking an NFL record by throwing for 470 yards in a victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend. Stroud is playing at an unbelievable level and absolutely deserves to be considered an NFL MVP candidate.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 draft, Stroud has thrown for 2,626, 15 touchdown passes, and only two interceptions. And most importantly, he has taken a down-and-out franchise with little offensive talent and has turned them into winners. The Houston Texans would currently be in the playoffs if the season ended today.
Stroud’s 2,626 yards passing ranks him second in the NFL. More than the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Tua Tagovailoa. All are considered to be front runners for the MVP award.
C.J. Stroud’s NFL success has to be great news for Ryan Day and the Ohio State football team. The lack of success from Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields started to put a label on Buckeye QBs as system players. But Stroud has changed the narrative, and that has to be great on the recruiting trail for Day and quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis.
If Stroud continues to play at this level through the end of November and into December, and the Texans continue to win, C.J. will have certainly played himself right into the thick of the MVP race. And that is something unprecedented for a rookie player.
