The Buckeyes need to take and make the threes

In most upsets you see in college basketball, everything goes in favor of the underdogs. They get all the right bounces, they take care of the ball, and most importantly they consistently knock down the deep ball.

Ohio State shot a horrendous 28% from three against Oakland on opening night. However, it does give me some confidence in their shooting ability tonight in a potential bounce-back spot with a game under their belts. There were also lots of new faces still adjusting to shooting in the Schott as well.

Both offenses in tonight’s match-up are among the best in college basketball. According to KenPom, Ohio State and Texas A&M both rank inside the top 25 of adjusted offensive efficiency with the Aggies at 23rd and the Buckeyes ranked 24th.

Although these offenses can certainly put the ball in the basket, both of these teams rank toward the bottom of college basketball in adjusted tempo. So, three-point opportunities may be limited for the Buckeyes. That’s why when the opportunity to shoot a three comes, they need to knock them down.

Texas A&M is a good, experienced team, and was picked by many to contend in the SEC. It will be a great game to learn how this Buckeye basketball team competes against a quality opponent. If the Buckeyes can do the three keys mentioned for tonight’s game, I’m confident they can keep it close or even win the game.
