Ohio State Football remains number one in CFP rankings

The Ohio State football team was the number-one team in the country when the first CFP rankings came out last week. They were able to get that ranking because of their resumé. At the time it was because they had the two best wins in the country.

This week, there was some question about whether or not the Buckeyes would keep that spot after looking a little lackluster against Rutgers, specifically in the first half. Georgia also beat a top-12 team in Missouri over the weekend so there was a thought they could jump Ohio State.

In the end, the committee still likes Ohio State’s resumé and their defense. Rutgers is a good team, so it’s not like the Buckeyes struggled with someone terrible. They beat a good team on the road in a game where they didn’t play their best offensively in the first half.

I was surprised that they didn’t move Washington over Florida State for the fourth spot. There were no changes in the top six. Washington beat USC on the road on Saturday. Add that to the win over Oregon and those are two better wins any two Florida State has.

As far as the Ohio State football team is concerned, they are sitting pretty. They are still number one with three weeks left to go in the regular season. As long as they keep winning, they have nothing to worry about. Even if they were to lose to Michigan, they might have some wiggle room.

Ohio State might get jumped in the rankings next week if Georiga beats Ole Miss, but that’s fine. Ohio State would still be two and Michigan would still be three even if they beat Penn State. If Ohio State wins out, they would be the number-one team in the country at the end.
