Ohio State Football: Confidence level against Rutgers
By Eric Boggs
Total Confidence Level – 78
For a second straight week, my confidence level in this team is at 78 percent. Another way to look at this exercise is that I give Ohio State a 78-percent chance of winning this game on Saturday against Rutgers.
I’m just as shocked as you are that I believe Ohio State is only at 78 percent against Rutgers. That seems crazy to me given how bad the Buckeyes have dominated this series. But two things are factoring into this percentage. First, Schiano and Rutgers have drastically improved in the four seasons he has been there. The fact that they are already bowl-eligible at this point and the majority of the Big Ten is not is a testament to how far he and this program have come.
Second, my confidence level with this offense just isn’t where it needs to be. If Henderson can have a second straight good game running the football, and McCord can make the routine throws without turning the football over, then maybe my confidence level will increase beyond the six that it currently sits at.
Finally, I don’t like playing two road games in a row with Rutgers coming off of a bye week feeling rested and having had extra preparation time. I hope I am wrong, but something about this game this weekend feels like it is going to be much closer than Ohio State fans are comfortable with. Hopefully, this game will end with Ohio State moving to 9-0 on the season and with the offense smashing my lack of confidence into oblivion.
