Ohio State Football: Winning ball games should be enough right now

The Ohio State football team improved to 8-0 on the season following a tough win in Madison. That should be enough right now for the fans.

The Ohio State football team took care of business on the road against Wisconsin last Saturday night. A 14-point road win in Camp Randall should come off as an impressive win, no matter the circumstances. And while I suspect that the College Football Playoff Committee will indeed see that come Tuesday night, the fact remains that a lot of fans are not happy with this football team right now and that’s a shame.

Is this the most complete Buckeye team that I’ve seen? Heck no. But the fact remains that while some of the big-name teams entering the 2023 season such as Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, and Penn State have all lost a game or games, your Ohio State football team remains undefeated with two top-10 wins.

Fans are worried about Kyle McCord’s ability, and I understand that. No, he is not Dwayne Haskins, Justin Field, or C.J. Stroud just yet nor may he ever be. But he’s been rock solid in the fourth quarters of games and the moment has not been too bright for him thus far.

The offensive line is still a question mark, although they have been showing some improvement as of late. And Ryan Day is still winning games with a massive number of injuries to key players every week.

This is also the best Ohio State defense in the last decade. Jim Knowles has been a home run hire and in a short two-season time span he has completely overhauled the look and production of the Silver Bullets.

While the Buckeyes may not be winning in typical Ohio State fashion, winning ball games should be enough right now for everyone. And come late November in Ann Arbor, all these tests might be exactly what this Buckeye team has needed to get over the hump on the Wolverines.
