Ohio State Football: Is Bucky a trap for the Buckeyes?
The Ohio State football team travels to Madison this Saturday for a showdown in Camp Randall. Is this a trap game for the Buckeyes?
The Ohio State football team is fresh off its thrilling 20-12 win over Penn State last weekend in Columbus. Looking forward, they have a night matchup in Camp Randall to close out the month of October. The Buckeyes and Ryan Day better not let their guards down this week.
Teams are prone to letdowns following emotional games. Look at what Notre Dame did after the Ohio State game when they nearly lost to Duke the week after and then proceeded to lose to Louisville the next game. Following the great victory two weeks ago over Oregon, Washington struggled mightily to beat a one-win Arizona State team this past weekend.
Camp Randall is a notoriously tough place to play, especially at night. The Buckeyes have had their struggles there in the past. And with former Buckeye Luke Fickell now in charge of the Badger program, that’s just another piece to the puzzle of why this could be a trap game.
This Wisconsin football team is not great. Fickell needs at least another transfer and freshman class to turn this thing around. But they do have talent. Braelon Allen is still on this team and is one of the better running backs in all of college football. Allen ran all over Ohio State last season in Columbus when he finished with 165 yards on 23 caries. He also was a massive reason to why the Badgers were able to beat Illinois last week, 25-21, as he ran for 145 yards and a score.
The Wisconsin defense is also pretty solid, only allowing 18.3 points per game. But the biggest reason why this could be a trap game is the atmosphere itself. Camp Randall is one of the best venues in all of college football and if the Badgers can keep this game close early, the crowd could play a major role in the game.
In the end, I believe the talent will win out. Ohio State is definitely the better team. But they just need to dot the I’s and cross the T’s this week leading up to the game to ensure that they are ready. If not, this could be your classic trap game.
