Ohio State football: Buckeyes defense suffocates Penn State
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team was facing a Penn State team that was a top ten team. It was the toughest game of the season so far. You wouldn’t know that by the way the Buckeyes suffocated Penn State throughout the game on defense.
Penn State was just 1/16 on third down. They didn’t convert on third down until there was just 45 seconds left in the game. Ohio State allowed just 12 points en route to a 20-12 victory. Quite frankly, it was the best defensive performance from the Buckeyes in a few years. The Nittany Lions couldn’t do anything.
On offense, the Buckeyes were led by Marvin Harrison Jr. yet again. He had 11 catches for 162 yards and the game-sealing touchdown. He was unstoppable for the entire game. No matter what the Nittany Lions did, he would find a way to get open and catch the ball.
J.T. Tuimoloau wrecked Penn State for the second straight year. He had a couple of sacks and forced a key incompletion late in the game on third down. The Nittany Lions simply has no answer for him either. The defense really was the story in this one.
Drew Allar and Penn State was held to just six yards in the second half until that final drive. Ohio State’s defense was amazing despite missing Denzel Burke. That’s pretty much all there is to it. The Ohio State football program now has the two best wins in the country.
We’ll see where the Buckeyes are ranked once all the games are done today. But based on their resume, there’s no reason they should still be ranked below Michigan. Ohio State should be ranked at least second in the polls.
Ohio State will take on Wisconsin next weekend. That game won’t be easy to win either coming off such an emotional victory today. But they certainly have the talent to beat anyone in the country.
