Former Ohio State football player C.J. Stroud was the number two overall pick in this past year’s draft. He was taken by the Houston Texans to be their franchise quarterback. I thought he should have gone number one overall to Carolina, but he went behind Bryce Young.

The Panthers have to be regretting that decision right now. Stroud looks like the best rookie in the entire league through the first five games of the season. In fact, Stroud set an NFL record today during his game against the Falcons, which they would ultimately lose.

Stroud went 177 straight passing attempts without throwing an interception, which is a new NFL record to start someone’s career. Stroud still hasn’t thrown an interception this year. He finished today’s game with 20/35 passing for 249 yards and a go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes left.

The Texans’ defense could hold though and Houston lost to Atlanta 21-19. That doesn’t diminish just how great Stroud has been to start his NFL career. He is clearly the best rookie quarterback in the league and he looks like someone that the Texans can build around for years to come.

Houston doesn’t have a good offensive line right now because of a bunch of injuries. That hasn’t helped Stroud. Once those guys get healthy, he should be able to put up even better numbers than what he’s putting up right now. That’s when Houston could become scary.

Stroud was a really good Ohio State football player. His knock was not being able to win big games after he lost to Oregon, Georgia, and Michigan twice. We’ll see if he gets an opportunity to play in a really big game later this year and he can change that narrative.

Stroud has already changed the narrative that Ohio State quarterbacks can’t succeed in the NFL.
