Turnovers are what set teams apart. The Ohio State football team has been known for taking the ball away on defense in large numbers over the past few years despite giving up some big plays. They haven’t done a good job of taking the ball away this year though.

Through four games, the Buckeyes have forced just five turnovers. That’s not an inspiring number considering the Buckeyes have played an FCS team and a team that throws the ball around 60 times a game. But that doesn’t matter because of what the offense is doing.

On offense, the Ohio State football team has just three total turnovers. That’s good enough to be tied for fifth in the country. Better yet, one of those turnovers was from their backup quarterback Devin Brown. They have done a very good job of holding onto the ball.

Having a first-time starting quarterback, the biggest concern is turning the ball over early in the season. Kyle McCord has done a great job avoiding that. He has just one interception so far this season. His questionable decision-making that he had earlier in his career has improved considerably.

Taking care of the ball is one of the biggest reasons why this Ohio State football team has a chance to make some real noise in the College Football Playoff. They have a great defense that limits opponents’ scoring and yardage, so all they need to do is not give the ball to the other team to take that advantage away.

dark. Next. NBC reverses course, will show Ohio State on Peacock

The Buckeyes may not be winning some games like fans are used to, but a win is a win. Great defense and not turning it over is a recipe that travels anywhere in the country. Hopefully, it’s something the Buckeyes can keep doing for the rest of the season.
