Ohio State Football: Don’t quit on Justin Fields just yet
The Ohio State football program is watching closely as its former gunslinger is trying to turn around his career in the Windy City.
The Ohio State football program and head coach Ryan Day are known for their quarterback development in recent years. Justin Fields is most certainly at the top of that list as I believe he’s the most talented QB I’ve ever seen wear the Scarlet and Gray.
But his play has been sporadic at best since joining the NFL. He is clearly not trusting his eyes and is seeing ghosts out on the football field. The proof is in the pudding when watching the film of that Buccaneers game in Week 3 of this season.
But let’s not write off this super-talented player just yet. I put a majority of the blame on the situation he’s been drafted into. The Bears coaching staff has done him no favors since he’s been in the league and that’s a shame. I truly believe that if he was drafted to San Fransisco instead of them taking Trey Lance, Justin Fields would be an MVP candidate.
The Bears haven’t provided Fields with any weapons and the offensive line has been a joke. It’s no wonder why he’s seeing ghosts on the field with him having to run for his life every game. No quarterback in this league can do it alone, the Bears need to give Justin some more help.
Look at what Fields did against the Broncos last week. Not to say that Denver is known for its defense, but he lit them up throwing 28-35 for 335 yards and four touchdowns. The talent is clearly there. He had time in the pocket, and he delivered darts all afternoon.
If you also take into account that Fields is the best rushing QB in the NFL after running for over 1,100 yards last season, this kid can still be special. I beg for the Bears to trade for some offensive linemen who can keep Fields upright. If they do that, I promise Fields would be a top-10 quarterback in the league.
