Ohio State Football no longer has a game on Peacock
By Ryan Stano
For those of you who were worried about having to pay for a subscription service to just watch one Ohio State football game this year, fear not! You no longer will have to do so, at least this year. Ohio State will no longer have a game on Peacock this season.
That’s because the game that was supposed to be on Peacock, Ohio State’s game against Maryland in two weeks, has now been picked up by FOX as their Big Noon Kickoff game. So that means you will be able to watch the Buckeyes like normal on that Saturday.
It’s nice that the Buckeyes will be on linear TV for every game this year. Not only is it more cost-effective for fans, but it’s easier as well. It also gives the Ohio State football team more of a reach when it comes to ratings. Everyone will get to see them play now.
Make no mistake though. Ohio State will have exclusive streaming games soon. Peacock will be the first streaming service to put Buckeye games on, but they won’t be the last. I could see CBS putting Ohio State football games on Paramount + at some point in the future too.
Streaming is the way that the TV world is going right now. Sports will follow very soon. Not every Ohio State game will be put on streaming because they are such a big and powerful brand, but some of the less attractive games that they play will be on there from time to time.
I’m just glad I don’t have to upgrade my free version of Peacock for just one measly game this year. I’ll worry about doing that next year when the Buckeyes almost certainly will have a game on the streaming service that you can’t watch anywhere else.
