Three best finishes in recent Ohio State Football history

1. Ohio State football vs. Miami 2002
Nothing tops winning a national title. That’s what the Ohio State football team had a chance to do in 2002 for the first time since 1968. They took on a loaded Miami Hurricanes squad that was looking to repeat as national champions. That Miami team hadn’t lost in two years.
Yet, the Buckeyes and their defense were able to stop the high-powered Hurricanes and hold them to just 17 points in regulation. Ohio State forced the game into double-overtime after scoring on a Craig Krenzel quarterback sneak. That was right after one of the most controversial penalties in college football history.
Miami interfered with Chris Gamble in the end zone on fourth down and that gave the Buckeyes new life. Maurice Clarett then scored what would be the game-winning touchdown in double OT. Now all Ohio State had to do was get one more stop to win it all.
They were able to do just that. Cie Grant put the pressure on Ken Dorsey as he fired an incomplete pass on fourth down to give Ohio State the national championship win. It was the best finish in Ohio State football history because of the stakes of the game and what it all meant.
Ohio State has won just one other national title since that game back in early January of 2003 despite having played in four National Championship Games. They are hoping to end that drought this year with another very talented team.
Those are the three best finishes in recent Ohio State football history. You just witnessed one of them on Saturday night too.
