Ohio State Football rolling into form at the perfect time
By Ryan Stano
No one would claim that the Ohio State football team has played a tough schedule so far. The trio of IU, Youngstown State, and Western Kentucky won’t be contending for national championships anytime soon. That’s why Buckeye fans were so frustrated with how things started out this season.
Last weekend against Western Kentucky is something that the Buckeyes needed. They were in need of a dominant performance on offense. The defense has looked great so far in all three games, but the offense hadn’t rounded into shape quite yet. That changed on Saturday.
Now, the Ohio State football team is rounding into form at the ideal time in their schedule. They head to South Bend to take on Notre Dame in what will be the toughest game they face on the road until the last game of the season. This game is where we really find out how good the Buckeyes are.
I’m really encouraged by what I saw on Saturday. Ohio State’s defense shut down a very potent Hilltoppers offense pretty easily. In all three games this season, the defense has settled in after the first possession. They typically allow just one score on that possession and then shut down the offense after that.
That’s something the Buckeyes may have to lean on in South Bend. Notre Dame has the strongest running game that the Buckeyes will have seen so far. That running game will be used to keep the ball away from Ohio State’s offense, so the defense has to get off the field.
Ohio State can score in a hurry, we know that. The key to this game will be taking care of the ball and making sure they don’t turn it over. It’s good to see the Buckeyes rolling into South Bend near the top of their game.
