The Ohio State football team takes it’s 3-0 record on the road to Notre Dame next Saturday. The aggressive Ryan Day needs to make an appearance.

The Ohio State football team has done what its needed to do so far to get ready for the big showdown with Notre Dame this Saturday evening in South Bend. Ryan Day has talked about building this team up and that the season will be a slow burn into what hopefully becomes a national championship contender.

So far Day has successfully found its starting quarterback, Kyle McCord, who should have all the confidence in the world after a great performance last weekend against Western Kentucky. But with possibly Ohio State’s biggest game of the season on the horizon, I’m hopeful that we see the aggressive version of Ryan Day calling plays in South Bend.

I think what makes Ryan Day one of the best play-callers in college football is his killer instinct. When he’s aggressive like he was against Clemson in the 2021 Sugar Bowl or the 2022 Peach bowl against Georgia, the Buckeyes are tough to handle.

When Day calls games timid, like in recent Michigan games or last year’s opener against Notre Dame, this offense flusters. Ryan Day needs to see what he has in Kyle McCord and what better way than to let him play free and loose against Notre Dame.

Now, I’m not calling for Day to be reckless. There is a fine line between the two. But I think Day has a handle on that. After all, he is calling plays for a reason at Ohio State. But often times in big game situations its either this aggressive version of Ryan Day calling plays or the timid version. He needs to be the former in South Bend. If he’s not, it could be a long night in South Bend.
