2. Javontae Jean-Baptiste

The Ohio State football team is always loaded at wide receiver and defensive line. Javontae Jean-Baptiste saw that and decided to leave the Buckeyes this past year after four seasons. He decided to head to Notre Dame and play under former Buckeye Marcus Freeman.

JBB played a lot in his time with the Buckeyes, including as a freshman. He accumulated 8 sacks over the four years he was with Ohio State. Yet, he was never given the opportunity to be a premier pass rusher while with the Buckeyes. He was never given a lot of snaps in each game because of how much Ohio State rotates defensive linemen.

So far with Notre Dame, he has been able to play more right off the bat. His stats are showing what he can do with all of those snaps. He already has 15 tackles through two games. It will be interesting to see what he can do next week against his former team.

Ohio State will likely have a plan for him in South Bend. Notre Dame doesn’t have any elite pass rushers on the roster this year, so JBB might be the best they have. I’ll be interested to see if he can make a suspect offensive line pay when they drop back to pass.

The final player I want to talk about is someone who was a former four-star recruit who could just never live up to his potential while he was with the Buckeyes.
