Ohio State Football: Confidence level against Western Kentucky
By Eric Boggs
Special Teams – Confidence Level 9
Ohio State’s kick and punt return drought has reached epic proportions. The last time a Buckeye had a special teams touchdown was on November 22, 2014, by Jalin Marshall against Indiana. At some point, Emeka Egbuka and or Xavier Johnson are going to break one. The law of averages tells us that it’s bound to happen at some point. Will it be this Saturday? Maybe, maybe not.
As for the kicking game, Jayden Fielding has been perfect on the season going three for three on field goals with a long of 40 yards while he has been a perfect seven for seven on extra points. So far, the kicking game has been pretty good. Obviously, this shouldn’t be a week where Ohio State needs its special teams to win the game. But it is good to know that if for some reason they do, that aspect of the team seems ready to roll.
Western Kentucky Kicker Lucas Cameiro has been perfect on the season as well. Just like Fielding, he is three for three on the season on field goal attempts with a long of 42 yards while he has been a perfect 12 of 12 on extra points.
I don’t believe this game is going to come down to special teams, but at the same time, it looks like Western Kentucky might be on par with the Buckeyes.
