Ohio State Football: Former Buckeye RB tears Achilles
The Ohio State football program is praying for the health of former running back J.K. Dobbins as he suffers another season-ending injury.
Former great Ohio State football running back J.K. Dobbins will miss the remainder of the 2023 NFL season with a torn Achilles. Dobbins, a former second-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens has had a tough go of things thus far into his young NFL career as this injury follows his 2021 torn ACL.
Dobbins obviously has the talent to be a great NFL back as he ran for 805 yards last season on only 134 carries for a whopping 6.0 yards per rush average. He also was instrumental down the stretch for Baltimore on their way to a playoff appearance.
Dobbins was on his way to a monster game against the Houston Texans before the injury. He carries the ball eight times for 22 yards and a touchdown. He also added two receptions for 15 yards. The Ravens are sorely going to miss him this season.
Baltimore’s quarterback Lamar Jackson had this to say about the injury to Dobbins, via the Washington Post:
"“I feel like J.K.’s been busting his behind to get back on that field and just show the world what he’s capable of, and to help us out along the way. I spoke highly of him this offseason, just letting everybody know that we really need him. For him to go down with a season-ending injury, that’s just very unfortunate for us.”"
The timing of this injury couldn’t be worse for this former great Buckeye as he is in the final year of his rookie contract. With two significant injuries within a two-year span, the likelihood of Dobbins getting a nice payday doesn’t appear to be good.
J.K. Dobbins had a monster career while in Columbus rushing for 4,459 yards and 38 touchdowns for the Scarlet and Gray. This includes his all-time great 2019 season when he rushed for over 2,000 yards and 21 touchdowns. What an amazing year that was for him as it propelled him into becoming a 2020 second-round NFL draft pick.
Hopefully, Dobbins can recover and resume his NFL career next season. We at Scarlet and Game are wishing the best to the former Ohio State All-American.
