The Ohio State football team was looking for a better performance offensively against Youngstown State. They weren’t very sharp on offense against Indiana, specifically in the passing game. The Buckeyes needed to fix those things this week.

The Buckeyes were able to do just that. Kyle McCord was really good in the first half, throwing completing 13/18 passes for 253 yards and 3 touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns were to Marvin Harrison Jr. He looked a lot more comfortable in the pocket and throwing the ball down the field.

With his performance today, he has solidified himself as the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Devin Brown got in the first half too, but didn’t look as sharp. McCord earned the right to keep leading the Ohio State football team with his performance today.

The offensive line is still a concern though. Josh Simmons doesn’t seem to be the right answer at left tackle. He had two penalties that killed the Buckeyes in the first half and doesn’t seem to be able to run block without holding someone. It’s a major problem moving forward.

Ohio State’s defense shaped up after allowing a touchdown on the opening drive. They got their first turnover of the season when Denzel Burke picked off a pass in the end zone in the third quarter. He has looked really good so far in these first two games.

This is exactly the type of game that the Buckeyes needed after that rough opener. McCord and the rest of the offense now have confidence that they can move the ball and be better in the passing game. That’s key with just two weeks until the Notre Dame game.

This result was expected. 35-7 is a strong win. Hopefully, Ohio State can do the same thing next week against Western Kentucky and win that one by a lot of points too.
