Ohio State Football vs. Youngstown State: What you need to know
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team will have its second game of the season on Saturday and it will be the first home game of the season. It will also be the only time the Buckeyes take on an FCS school this year. Youngstown State will also be the easiest foe Ohio State faces.
We talked about all of the things that the Ohio State football team needs to improve on after the opener against IU. This is a good team to do those things. While the Penguins do have a number of new players, they don’t have enough talent to compete with the Buckeyes.
Ohio State needs to fix the offense and open it up. Kyle McCord is still the starter of this team…for now. He did not look good against IU. There has been no bigger fan of McCord than me when he came to campus as a freshman. It seems like I may have been wrong.
Then again, this is the type of game where he can get his confidence up and really let it fly. If he does that, then he could live up to the potential he has. Youngstown State does not have a good defense. It’s certainly not an FBS-level defense. That could be exactly what McCord needs.
Defensively for Ohio State, they just have to keep doing what they’re doing. They were really strong against the Hoosiers on Saturday. It was an impressive display for a defense that has been much-maligned over the past couple of years. They only allowed IU to have 153 total yards of offense.
I’d expect a similar level of output from the Penguins, if not even lower. I’d like to see the defense get some turnovers in this game. That’s the one thing they weren’t able to do. That’s the next level that the defense needs to be able to reach.
I’d expect this to be a massive blowout in the Shoe.
