The Ohio State football team is ready for the start of the season on September 2nd at Indiana. Are the Buckeyes ready to win a national title?

The Ohio State football team and head coach Ryan Day are less than two weeks away from the start of the season. The Buckeye roster is loaded with talent at key positions, but are they ready to win a national title this upcoming season?

The answer will lie at the feet of the quarterbacks. It sounds as if neither Kyle McCord nor Devin Brown have stood out enough to be named the starter. Day hinted earlier this week that McCord and Brown will both likely get playing time in Bloomington. That’s something we haven’t seen in a while for Ohio State.

Ryan Day has maybe his most talented team since 2019. The wide receivers are absolutely stacked from the top to the bottom of the room. The Buckeyes can go five-deep at running back. The offensive line situation appears to be taking shape. The defensive line is as deep as it’s been in years. The linebacker unit is at its best in quite a while. The secondary seems to have been fixed this offseason.

Ohio State can absolutely win a national title. But all the hopes and dreams of Buckeye Nation will be pinned on whoever emerges at quarterback. Can the Buckeyes get quality play there? With Ryan Day at the helm, the answer has to be yes, but the more important aspect of that will be how quickly it takes.

We saw C.J. Stroud struggle early in the 2021 season. Kyle McCord and Devin Brown will both struggle some early this season. The key will be how fast it takes for Day to see one of them emerge, and then how fast it takes that player to grow and succeed at this level.

Quarterback is the most important position in all of sports for a reason. A good quarterback can hide mistakes. A bad one can compound them. This team is ready to compete for a title. Hopefully whoever the quarterback is will be ready as well.
