The Ohio State football team has embraced the use of the transfer portal as another source of recruiting. They have brought in a bunch of transfers this season, including one along the offensive line who’s ready to make an impact immediately. A defensive lineman was brought in and is ready to do the same thing.

That defensive lineman is Tywone Malone. Malone came in from Ole Miss and has already turned heads during his work in the Spring and so far in the Fall. Malone had played both football and baseball for the Rebels but it just focusing on football with the Buckeyes.

Malone gives the Ohio State football team something they didn’t have a year ago; someone tough right up the middle. Malone has played a lot of three-tech this offseason. That’s when someone lines up right over the guard’s outside shoulder.

Lining Malone up there means that the center is too far away to help block him in most cases. Because of that, Malone can really get some nice pressure on the interior because a tackle is going to have to worry about J.T. Tuimoloau or Jack Sawyer on the edge.

Malone is a player who can make a difference along the defensive line for the Buckeyes. They need more pressure up front to help a secondary that is still trying to figure themselves out. If the quarterback doesn’t have enough time to find the open man, it doesn’t matter how bad the secondary is.

I expect Malone to have a good season this year. He’s a guy that has been working hard to get playing time once the season rolls around. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him get a lot of snaps this season with the first-string guys. He’s already been that good.

I can’t wait to see what the defensive line does this year.
