Ohio State Football is second greatest program of all-time
By Ryan Stano
We as Buckeye fans know how good the Ohio State football program is historically. If you look at their history, the 80s was really the only decade in which there wasn’t some sustained success. Other than that, they’ve been great in parts of every other decade.
There’s a reason they have more first-round picks than any other school. Now according to a formula developed by College Football News, they are rated as the second-greatest college football program in the country. They are behind only Alabama for that title.
As you can see, there are plenty of great programs on that top ten list. It’s noteworthy that TTUN is fourth on the list, a full two spots behind the Buckeyes. We as Ohio State football fans know that’s always been the case and wins before WWI are all that’s propping them up.
This was figured out by accumulating all-time AP Poll votes over the course of several decades. If you want to read more about this formula, you can read more about it here. I think it’s extremely interesting that Oklahoma is that high despite not winning a national title in the last 23 years.
Ohio State has work to do if they want to catch Bama. Nick Saban is at the end of his coaching tenure. It won’t be long before he decides to retire. Once he leaves, there’s a really good chance that the Bama dynasty goes away for a while. He’s the greatest coach to ever do it so it’s hard to go up from there.
Ohio State is the premier program in the Big Ten and probably always will be. Michigan gives them competition for that and has especially done that in the past couple of years. I have faith that recent recruiting efforts will keep the Buckeyes on top for good.
