Ohio State Football: Three position battles to watch
By Ryan Stano
3. Who will be the starting running back for the Ohio State football team?
TreVeyon Henderson was the undisputed starting running back heading into last year. He’s a former five-star recruit that showed really good things as a freshman in 2021. Then, he got hurt and looked like he was trying to hit the home run every time he touched the ball.
Miyan Williams was the best back the Buckeyes had last season. He was the most consistent guy even in the face of some shoddy blocking. He also got hurt at the end of last year but still showed that he is worthy of getting a lot of touches this season.
So which guy do you go with? Do you go with the guy who has the highest big-play potential? Or do you go with the guy who is consistently solid? I don’t think there’s a wrong answer here because both will get a significant number of touches this season.
I think that Henderson will go back to being the starter because of that big-play ability. I do think there are games where the carries will be split closer to 50/50, but I think it will largely be a 65/35 split in favor of Henderson. Williams will still get carries close to the goal line though.
These are the three position battles that I am most intrigued by. We still have a while before the coaching staff makes any decisions on the depth chart, but these battles will define how successful this Ohio State Buckeyes team is this season.
