Ohio State Football: Buckeye linebacker tears ACL
The Ohio State football team will be without one of its linebackers in 2023 as Kourt Williams has torn his ACL.
The Ohio State football team received some unwelcomed news over the weekend as linebacker Kourt Williams has torn his ACL, Ryan Day confirmed during his Monday afternoon press conference. This is the second time that Williams has torn an ACL during his four seasons on campus. He also has had two torn labrums in both his shoulders. Just extremely unlucky.
"“I feel awful for Kourt. He’s such a great young man,” Day said, via Eleven Warriors."
This is awful news for a guy that seems to be well-respected within the program. Moving to linebacker this offseason from safety, Williams was a highly touted recruit coming out of St. John Bosco High School in California. And while his playing career has not gone the way he’s wanted thus far, hopefully, Williams can make a full recovery and be ready for the 2024 campaign.
Ohio State coaches had high hopes for Williams’ move to the linebacker’s room. He is a big kid with good speed and the move seemed to have suited him well before the injury took place. The Buckeyes are set to lose both of its starting linebackers after the 2023 season, so hopefully Williams will be ready to compete next year.
The Buckeyes will still be fine this season at linebacker as they still have a ton of depth between Tommy Eichenberg, Steele Chambers, Cody Simon, CJ Hicks, Gabe Powers, and Reid Carrico.
In other news from Ryan Day’s Monday presser, Day still said that the quarterback competition was too close to call, but he’d like to have a starter by this time next week. So, look out for some big news on that front soon.
