Ohio State Football ranked fourth in preseason Coaches Poll
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program is one of those schools that is a shoo-in to be a top-five ranked team in the preseason polls pretty much every year. They recruit at an elite level and they reload instead of rebuild as a program. The same can be said for this season.
According to the preseason coaches poll, the Buckeyes are the fourth-best team in the country. They are ranked behind Georgia, Michigan, and Alabama. LSU, USC, Penn State, Florida State, Clemson, and Tennessee round out the rest of the top ten.
Personally, I think Ohio State should start ranked higher than Alabama. They weren’t that great last year and just lost their quarterback. Their wide receiver depth is non-existent compared to the Buckeyes’ as well. I know it doesn’t matter right now, but it’s annoying.
As much as I hate seeing it, TTUN deserves to be ranked ahead of the Ohio State football team at this point. They’ve beaten the Buckeyes two-straight times and return their QB. While the defense won’t be quite as good, they deserve to be ahead of the Buckeyes for now.
If you look at teams that are in the Big Ten this year, there are just four teams in the top 25 according to the coaches. After those three in the top ten, Wisconsin comes in at 21st. No other team cracked the list. I’m sure that will change at some point throughout the season.
Preseason polls don’t matter. Coaches polls certainly don’t matter either since they have no idea how good other teams are. They’re only focused on their own program. A large number of head coaches don’t even vote. They leave that to GAs or someone else on staff.
I’m way more interested to see what the AP preseason poll says when it comes out. That will be out soon.
