Ohio State Football having issues on the recruiting trail
By Ryan Stano
For a while, the Ohio State football team had a bunch of momentum on the recruiting trail. They were stealing prospects from Michigan, getting help in the secondary, and looked like they could possibly overtake Georiga for the number one recruiting class in the country.
Things have cooled off in a major way since then. The Buckeyes lost a five-star receiver to Miami, a five-star defensive end to South Carolina, and now they’ve lost another five-star recruit. This recruit is the one that actually hurts the most because of the position he plays.
That five-star recruit is KJ Bolden. Bolden was the best recruit left on Ohio State’s board. He’s a five-star safety from the state of Georgia. He’s the seventh-best recruit in the entire country and although he’s listed as an athlete, he was being recruited as a safety.
Instead of choosing the Ohio State football program, Bolden decided to commit to Florida State on Saturday night. Getting a safety as good as him would have really helped the Buckeyes fix a secondary that has been maligned with issues for the past few years.
I don’t want to be too dramatic with how things have been going in recruiting. After all, they still have the second-best class in the country with plenty of irons in the fire. They still have time in the Fall to land some other big prospects they have on their board.
Even so, losing out on a player as good as Bolden at a position of need stings. I’d feel a lot better about their chances to catch Georgia for that number one spot had they been able to land Bolden. He was the guy the Buckeyes had their eye on the most.
We’ll keep you guys updated as more recruiting news flows in throughout the Fall!
