Six Ohio State Football players make trophy watchlists
By Ryan Stano
It’s watchlist season and every trophy has one. Now that we are in August, watchlists will start to come out almost every day. Today, the Outland Trophy and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy released their preseason watchlists and six Ohio State football players made the cut to be on that list.
For the Nagurski Award, J.T. Tuimoloau, Tommy Eichenberg, and Lathan Ransom all made the list. Of those three, I think Eichenberg and JTT have the best chance to win that award. I think JTT is ready for a monster year and Eichenberg is trying to prove he’s good enough to be a first-round pick.
If either of them wins that award, that could be enough to make them a first-round pick. Ransom had some good spurts of play last season but also had a couple of devastating plays at the end of the year. Hopefully, he can improve on those so they don’t happen again.
For the Outland Trophy, Donovan Jackson, Mike Hall, and Matt Jones are all on it. This trophy is given to the best lineman in the country on either side of the ball. I think Jackson has the best shot of these three players to win the award based on how he played last year.
Jackson had some struggles in games in his first year as a starter, but he learned quickly and should be a beast this year. He’s the best offensive lineman returning for the Ohio State football team and will be asked to lead a suddenly inexperienced offensive line.
All of these players are worthy to be on their respective watchlists. If Ohio State is going to win a national title, they need all of these players to be the best they can be. Expect big years from all of these guys.
