Ohio State Football: Ryan Day wants QB battle settled quickly
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State Football program needs a new starting quarterback for this season. The battle is between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown. Ryan Day has not decided on one quarterback or the other yet. It has been assumed that McCord will win the job, but that is not a certainty.
One thing we do know is that Day wants someone to emerge quickly in Fall camp. Day mentioned during Media Day that he would prefer to have someone take the starting job before the start of the regular season. That is the ideal scenario for the Buckeyes.
Day also mentioned that if no one has a clear lead in the battle, and that it could go into the start of the regular season. He made it very clear that this is not his preferred scenario. It’s best for his team if the Buckeyes can decide on a starter before the IU game in Week 1.
Ohio State is going to be a good team no matter who the starting quarterback is because of the rest of the talent on the offense. But the quarterback is the most important position on the field. Choosing the right one is the most important decision Day will make this season.
I still think McCord has the upper hand right now. He’s been in the offense longer than Brown has. I also think he has a stronger arm than Brown and has the connection with Marvin Harrison Jr. from high school. That connection might help push him over the edge as well.
This is the most important battle that the Buckeyes have on the roster. Whoever the next quarterback for the Ohio State football program has a lot of pressure on his shoulders. I can’t wait to find out who that next person is.
