The Ohio State football team is less than two weeks away from the start of fall camp. Let’s take a look at the Big Ten’s best quarterbacks for 2023.

The Ohio State football program has had a great recent run of developing quarterbacks. Three straight first-round NFL draft picks in Dwayne Haskins, Justin Fields, and C.J. Stroud are the culmination of Ryan Day’s impressive work at the position.

Day hopes to make it four straight first-round NFL quarterbacks with Kyle McCord. McCord was hand selected by Ryan Day for his 2021 recruiting class. Committing nearly a year and a half early allowed Day to build a very good recruiting class around McCord. And now with two seasons as the primary backup, McCord is ready for his opportunity in 2023.

But where does he rank amongst the rest of the Big Ten quarterbacks? Let’s take a look.

Tanner Mordecai was brought in by new head coach Luke Fickell and offensive coordinator Phil Longo to help launch their new offense. Mordecai brings instant credibility to the position, something the Badgers have not had since Russell Wilson was taking snaps a decade ago.

The SMU transfer threw for over 3,500 yards and had 33 passing touchdowns in 2022. Look for the Badgers to throw the ball a ton in 2023, opening running lanes for Braelon Allen, who is one of the best tailbacks in college football.

Taulia Tagovailoa is a very good Big Ten quarterback for the Terps. Narrowly missing out on a major upset win over Ohio State last season, Tagovailoa looks to build upon his very impressive 2022 season in which he threw for over 3,000 yards and had 18 passing touchdowns.

The three-year starter for Maryland, Taulia Tagovailoa has helped head coach Mike Locksley turn around this once dumpster fire of a program into a respectable team within the Big Ten East.
